FAQ: Chrome Local Network Access (LNA) Prompt

Why am I seeing this pop-up?

You may see a message in Chrome like:

“This site wants to connect to devices on your local network.”

This is a Chrome security feature. It appears when SimCapture needs to connect to devices on your local network (for example, on-site video equipment).

Is this safe to allow?

When using SimCapture, this is expected behavior and safe to allow.

Clicking “Allow” simply lets your browser connect to the SimCapture recording equipment on your network directly to improve streaming performance. Connecting locally improves quality and reduces latency, as video can be sent directly to your computer rather than having to be downloaded from the cloud.

What happens if I click “Block”?

If you block access:

  • Video may take longer to load
  • You may see lower-quality video or higher latency
  • Video may not load at all, depending on other network settings.

Why don’t I always see this message?

You’ll only see this when it’s needed.

If you've already approved access, or if you’re streaming from outside of your local network or not using local recording devices, the prompt won’t appear.

What if I don’t see the prompt but video isn’t working?

In some organizations, IT settings may block this permission automatically.

To understand whether LNA settings are the issue, try the following:

  • Refresh the page to see if video loads
  • Restart Chrome and load a live SimCapture session to see if the prompt appears
  • Check if you see a small icon in the Chrome address bar (top right of the URL) indicating blocked permissions
  • Try using a different browser or device to confirm if the issue is specific to Chrome
  • If you’re on-site, confirm you are connected to the same network as your simulation equipment

If the issue continues, it’s likely being controlled by your organization’s settings.

You can contact your IT team and share this:

“SimCapture needs browser permission to access local network devices for on-site video streaming. Can you allow Chrome Local Network Access (LNA) for SimCapture so the application can connect to local devices?”

What should I tell my IT team?

If you suspect this is being blocked, you can share this message:

“SimCapture needs browser permission to access local network devices for on-site video streaming. Can you allow Chrome Local Network Access (LNA) for SimCapture so the application can connect to local devices?”

If possible, include:

  • The SimCapture site URL you are using
  • A note that this affects on-site video streaming

As always, the SimCapture support team is available for any questions you or your IT team may have.
