TruMonitor App Guide: Realistic Vital Signs Training on Tablets
TruMonitor is a stand-alone training solution available on iOS and Android tablets. It allows learners to interpret vital signs in realistic clinical scenarios, helping them develop critical decision-making skills. Instructors can create dynamic simulations that evolve in real time, enhancing the learning experience.
What You Can Do with TruMonitor
With TruMonitor, instructors and learners can:
- Adjust patient vital signs in real time
- Introduce lab results and scenario changes
- Create complex medical scenarios for training, exams, or interviews
- Pair two devices for instructor-controlled simulations
- Receive real-time CPR feedback on the student monitor
- Simulate patients of all ages-adults, children, newborns, and elderly
- Use with any manikin or standardized patient, or connect to a Laerdal-compatible Resusci Anne QCPR manikin
Accessing and Using the TruMonitor App
This guide uses an iPad, but Android tablets offer the same features.
Basic Monitor Controls
- Visibility buttons - Show/hide monitor waveforms instantly
- Sliders - Adjust heart rate and other values. Tap to enter numbers manually; changes apply only after clicking the green Update button.
- Update button - Confirms changes; green when active, gray when inactive
- Timer button - Apply changes gradually over time (up to 10 minutes)
- Waveform - Tap to select new patterns for BP, SpO₂, or CO₂; click Update to apply changes to the student monitor.
- Reset button - Restore monitor to default state
Starting a Local Session
- On the Instructor device, tap Instructor from the home screen.
2. Tap Start Session to create a local session.
3. On the Student device, tap Student.
4. Select the discovered session to join.
From the Session tab, instructors can assign monitor or ventilator skins and control parameters from the Monitor tab.
To end the session: Tap End Session > Confirm on the Instructor device.
Starting a Remote Session
If the student is in a different location:
- Tap Remote Connection to generate a session code
- Tap Start Session
- Student enters the code and taps Join Session
Remote sessions function the same as local ones, with full instructor control.
Best Practices
- Ensure both devices are connected to the same network (for local sessions) or have internet access (for remote sessions)
- Use high-quality tablets for smooth performance
- Practice using the controls before conducting live training
- Save or document session outcomes for review and feedback
