SimCapture Recorder: Improved Recording Reliability and Performance
Overview
The latest SimCapture Recorder update improves recording reliability and performance behind the scenes, helping ensure recordings reach the cloud successfully and cameras are ready when sessions begin.
These improvements are applied automatically. No installation or configuration changes are required.
What's Improved
More Reliable Recording Uploads
SimCapture now verifies that a recording has successfully uploaded to the cloud before removing the local copy from the capture node. If an upload is incomplete, the local recording is retained and flagged for attention.
Why it matters: Recordings are better protected when network connections are slow or temporarily interrupted.
Faster Session Starts
The Recorder now keeps camera and capture sources ready in advance, reducing delays when recording begins.
Why it matters: Video appears more quickly and sessions start more consistently.
Automatic Recovery of Interrupted Uploads
If a recording upload is interrupted due to a network issue or unexpected restart, SimCapture automatically detects and retries the upload.
Why it matters: Less manual intervention is needed, and recordings are more likely to reach the cloud successfully.
Rollout Status
The new SimCapture Recorder is being rolled out gradually across SimCapture Cloud institutions. More than 2,000 capture nodes are already using the new recording platform.
The transition does not change your existing recording workflow, Session Viewer experience, or debriefing process. Institutions that have not yet been migrated will continue using the current recorder until their rollout phase begins.
Current Limitations
The following source types are not yet supported and will continue using the existing recorder:
- USB and webcam sources
- Epiphan capture devices
- NDI sources
- PTZ camera control
Support for additional device types and exam workflows is planned in future rollout phases.
Looking Ahead
Upcoming enhancements include:
- Expanded device support
- Stream health monitoring
- Continued rollout to additional institutions
