This article walks you through how to integrate SimPad with SimCapture to capture session data, video, and logs during a simulation. The steps begin from the SimPad Home page and assume you are already familiar with basic SimPad functionality.
Use this workflow when you want SimPad‑driven simulations to be automatically recorded and logged in SimCapture for review, debriefing, and reporting.
Audience and Prerequisites
This guide is intended for:
- Instructors, simulation technologists, or administrators who use SimPad with SimCapture
- Users with permission to create and record sessions in SimCapture
Before you begin, confirm that:
- You are familiar with SimPad’s basic operation
- You have access to SimCapture and an available recording location
- SimPad and SimCapture are connected to the appropriate network
What You’ll Accomplish
By completing this workflow, you will:
- Start a session from SimPad
- Configure SimCapture recording from within SimPad
- Capture simulation logs and data directly into a SimCapture session
Integration Workflow
Step 1: Select Manual Mode
From the SimPad Home page, select Manual Mode.
Step 2: Name the Session
Enter a descriptive session name .
This name will carry over to the SimCapture session for easier identification later.
Step 3: Open Session Settings
Select Session Settings , then choose Configure SimCapture .
This connects the SimPad session to SimCapture.
Step 4: Select a Location
Choose the SimCapture location where the session will be recorded. Only online locations appear in the list.
Step 5: Choose Camera Feeds
Select the camera feeds you want to include in the session, then select OK .
Step 6: Return to the Session Overview
Select Back twice to return to the session information page.
When prompted, select OK to continue.
Step 7: Start Recording
Select Start .
- The SimCapture session begins recording
- Session data and logs are captured automatically
Step 8: End the Session
When the simulation is complete:
- Select End
- Select Quit
The session stops, and all logs and recordings are saved to SimCapture.
What Happens Next?
After the session ends:
- A SimCapture session is automatically created
- All logs, data, and recordings are stored with the session
- Authorized users can review the session from SimCapture for debriefing, evaluation, or reporting
Helpful Notes
- Offline camera warnings at session start are normal if devices are powered off
- The SimPad session and SimCapture session remain linked throughout recording
- Session names entered in SimPad help identify recordings later in SimCapture

If the SimCapture session does not start, cameras do not appear, or logs are missing:
- Verify the selected location is online
- Confirm camera devices are powered on
- Contact your System Administrator or Laerdal Support for assistance
