Standardized Patients (SPs) play a vital role in Remote OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Examinations). This guide walks you through the steps to access and participate in virtual encounters using SimCapture.
Accessing the Remote OSCE
- Log in to SimCapture.
- Scroll to the My Courses section.
- Click the Remote Exam: Patient button at the bottom of the section.
This will take you to the Virtual Waiting Room.
Setting Up Your Camera and Microphone
In the Virtual Waiting Room, you can:
- Select and preview your camera and microphone settings.
- Ensure everything is working before entering the virtual room.
Entering the Virtual Room
If the Proctor has configured the session for early entry:
- You may enter the virtual room at any time.
- While waiting for the Learner, you may see messages such as:
- Waiting for Student to log in
- Waiting for Student to enter
During this time, the Learner is completing pre-encounter steps like:
- Reviewing the Honor Code
- Reading the Door Note
- Waiting for the Proctor to open the room
During the Encounter
Once the Proctor starts the encounter, your screen will display:
- The virtual room name
- Your role (Patient)
- Your first and last name
- A countdown timer showing time remaining
- The Learner's video feed
- Your own video and audio preview
Note: SPs do not have access to the Stop Encounter button. Only the Learner can end the session.
After the Encounter
Once the encounter ends:
- You'll return to the Virtual Waiting Room.
- If additional encounters are scheduled, you can re-enter the room when prompted.
If you need help with technical setup or encounter access, reach out to your Proctor or the Laerdal support team.
