Create courses, scenarios, and evaluations in SimCapture for Skills to build guided learning experiences for your learners. You can create new content from scratch, add instructional media, and configure scoring and feedback options.

This article covers the manual process for creating Skills content, including courses, scenarios, evaluations, and evaluation questions.

If you want to accelerate evaluation creation, SimCapture for Skills also includes the Samaritan Evaluation Building Assistant, an AI-powered tool that helps generate evaluation content based on your learning objectives and training requirements. You can use Samaritan to create an initial evaluation draft and then refine it manually using the Evaluation Builder.

Before you begin

SimCapture for Skills uses two titles for courses and scenarios:

  • Private Title: Visible only to administrators and course contributors.
  • Public Title: Visible to learners.

If a Public Title is not entered, the Private Title is displayed to learners.

Create a course

  1. Navigate to Courses.
  2. Select Add Course.
  3. Enter a Private Title.
  4. Enter a Public Title (optional).
  5. Complete any additional course settings.
  6. Select Save.

You can also add scenarios to an existing course by opening the course and following the steps below.

Create a scenario

  1. Open the course where you want to add content.
  2. Select Add New Scenario.
  3. Select Create New.
  4. Choose a scenario type:
    • Peer-to-Peer
    • Self-Record
  5. Enter a title.
  6. Optionally add an overview and learning objectives.
  7. Select Save.

Create an evaluation

Evaluations contain the skills, competencies, or actions that learners complete during a scenario.

  1. Select the evaluation section where you want to add content.
  2. Select Add Evaluation.
  3. Select Create New.
  4. Enter a title.
  5. Select Save.
  6. Select Add Questions or the edit icon to open the Evaluation Builder.

Add evaluation questions

The Evaluation Builder supports several question types.

Multiple Choice

Use Multiple Choice questions to score learner performance.

When configuring a question:

  • Define the available response options.
  • Assign points to each option as needed.
  • Specify the total possible points for the question.

For accurate reporting, configure both the response points and the total possible points.

Information

Information items provide instructions or section headings within an evaluation. They are not scored.

Free Text

Free Text items allow learners to enter narrative responses. These responses are not scored.

Edit and organize evaluation content

Use the controls in the Evaluation Builder to manage your content:

  • Duplicate a question or step.
  • Move items to a different position.
  • Delete unwanted items.
  • Insert new content between existing items.

SimCapture for Skills does not automatically save changes. Save your work frequently.

Add learner feedback options

Add feedback fields

Enable the feedback option on an evaluation item to allow evaluators to provide additional comments or context related to a specific step.

Add hint text

Hint text provides optional guidance that learners can view while completing a scenario.

Hints are hidden by default and can be opened when needed, helping reduce on-screen clutter while still providing support.

Add media to a scenario

You can add instructional media directly to evaluation items to support learner performance.

Common uses include:

  • Demonstrating a procedure
  • Displaying equipment images
  • Providing instructional videos
  • Sharing audio guidance

Media can be used in both Peer-to-Peer and Self-Record scenarios.

Add example videos

You can use a Self-Record scenario to create demonstration videos for learners.

  1. Create a Self-Record scenario.
  2. Record the desired performance or procedure.
  3. Submit the recording.
  4. Download the video from the session.
  5. Add the video to future Peer-to-Peer or Self-Record activities

Evaluation sections in Peer-to-Peer scenarios

Peer-to-Peer scenarios can include content in multiple sections:

  • Before Session: Pre-work completed before practice.
  • Live P2P: The primary practice activity.
  • After Session: Post-practice reflection or follow-up activities
