This guide walks you through how to use SimCapture for Skills with a peer using two separate devices. If you're looking to practice solo, see How to Use the Self-Record Feature.

Things to Know Before You Begin

  • You can access SimCapture for Skills on any device with a web browser, including smartphones and tablets.
  • Single Sign-On (SSO) is available if your organization supports it.
  • A stable Wi-Fi connection is recommended for the best experience.

User Roles in SimCapture for Skills

  • System Administrator - Sets up the system and grants permissions.
  • Administrator - Creates and manages courses.
  • Participant (You) - The learner performing the skill.

In peer-to-peer practice:

  • The Learner performs the skill.
  • The Observer (your peer) evaluates the performance.

Overview of the Peer-to-Peer Process

  1. The Learner selects a course and scenario.
  2. Chooses Practice with a Peer and selects Two Devices as the pairing method.
  3. A code is generated and shared with the Observer.
  4. The Observer logs in, selects Observe a Peer, and enters the code.
  5. The Learner begins the practice session while the Observer evaluates.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Log In

Go to: [yourdomain].simcapture.com/skills

2. Select a Course

As the Learner, choose a non-self-record skill from your course list. Review the Overview and Learning Objectives.

3. Start Practice

Click Practice, then select Practice with a Peer.

4. Pair Devices

Choose Two Devices as the pairing method and generate a code. Share this code with your Observer.

The Observer will be directed to a pre-reflection (if configured) once the evaluation begins.

5. Begin Practice

Once the Observer clicks Keep This Session, the Learner clicks Begin Practice to start the evaluation.

Evaluation Process

  • The Observer uses a checklist to mark each skill as Complete or Incomplete.
  • Once finished, the Observer clicks Submit Checklist.
  • The Learner will see a Checklist Completed message.

Comments

Some checklist items may prompt the Learner to add a comment. These are configured by the Administrator and can appear in:

  • Pre/Post Reflections
  • Live Checklist
