This guide walks you through how to use SimCapture for Skills with a peer using two separate devices. If you're looking to practice solo, see How to Use the Self-Record Feature.
Things to Know Before You Begin
- You can access SimCapture for Skills on any device with a web browser, including smartphones and tablets.
- Single Sign-On (SSO) is available if your organization supports it.
- A stable Wi-Fi connection is recommended for the best experience.
User Roles in SimCapture for Skills
- System Administrator - Sets up the system and grants permissions.
- Administrator - Creates and manages courses.
- Participant (You) - The learner performing the skill.
In peer-to-peer practice:
- The Learner performs the skill.
- The Observer (your peer) evaluates the performance.
Overview of the Peer-to-Peer Process
- The Learner selects a course and scenario.
- Chooses Practice with a Peer and selects Two Devices as the pairing method.
- A code is generated and shared with the Observer.
- The Observer logs in, selects Observe a Peer, and enters the code.
- The Learner begins the practice session while the Observer evaluates.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Log In
Go to: [yourdomain].simcapture.com/skills
2. Select a Course
As the Learner, choose a non-self-record skill from your course list. Review the Overview and Learning Objectives.
3. Start Practice
Click Practice, then select Practice with a Peer.
4. Pair Devices
Choose Two Devices as the pairing method and generate a code. Share this code with your Observer.
The Observer will be directed to a pre-reflection (if configured) once the evaluation begins.
5. Begin Practice
Once the Observer clicks Keep This Session, the Learner clicks Begin Practice to start the evaluation.
Evaluation Process
- The Observer uses a checklist to mark each skill as Complete or Incomplete.
- Once finished, the Observer clicks Submit Checklist.
- The Learner will see a Checklist Completed message.
Comments
Some checklist items may prompt the Learner to add a comment. These are configured by the Administrator and can appear in:
- Pre/Post Reflections
- Live Checklist
Session Feedback
Before viewing your score, you can expand each question to see detailed feedback:
- Done - Full credit
- Partially Done - Partial credit
- Missed - No credit
- Unscored - No point value assigned
Scoring Breakdown
Your score screen includes:
- Total Score
- Date of Attempts
- Total Attempts
- Previous High Score
- Timer
- Score by Question Category
- Detailed Feedback
Score Colors:
- Green - New high score
- Black - Same as previous
- Orange - Below previous high score
The timer tracks how long the session lasted-useful for time-based assessments.
Question Categories
Categories (e.g., QSEN competencies) help identify strengths and areas for improvement. These are visible to both learners and administrators for performance tracking.
