What is SimCapture for Skills?

SimCapture for Skills is a practical, mobile-friendly interface for hands-on skills practice for improving learning outcomes. It supports hybrid learning allowing it to be used on-site in the simulation lab and off-site. 

The Self-record feature allows a learner to record and submit a video for evaluation. It also allows an Administrator to evaluate the submitted video themselves or, assign the submitted video to be evaluated by other learners or the learner themselves.

This article will show you how to use SimCapture for Skills when using the Self-record feature. If you are interested in the Peer-to-Peer method, click here.

Browsers supported

  • Chrome - recommended
  • Safari - can be used and we will support.

Things to know before you begin

  • The SimCapture for Skills mobile-friendly interface is accessible on any device that enables a web browser including all smartphones and tablets.
  • Single Sign-On (SSO) is available if your organization has been enabled for this feature.
  • A recorded skill is indicated by a video icon.
  • When asked, allow the SimCapture for Skills mobile-friendly interface to access the microphone and camera on your device.
  • Results will be filtered into SimCapture reporting for analysis by users with permission to review results.
  • Self-recording submissions can be assigned for review by administrators, peers, or for self-scoring
  • A participant is not able to be assigned as a scorer after the session is complete.

If you are a faculty member and want to learn how to assign and evaluate student self-record sessions, click here.

  1. Log in to your SimCapture for Skills site using [yoursimcapturedomain].simcapture.com/skills
  2. Select the recorded skill you want to work in.  
  3. Review the Overview and Learning Objectives and click Start. 
  4. Answer the question(s) on the Pre-Reflection screen and then click Begin Procedure. 
  5. Click the red button at the bottom of the page to begin recording. 
  6. Click the square button at the bottom of the page to stop the recording when you have completed the exercise. 
  7. Review your video and click either Submit this Video or Re-record this Skill. Once a video is submitted, you will not be able to re-record this skill. However, if your instructor re-releases the scenario to you, you may re-record the same skill. 
  8. Submit the video and answer the post-Reflection question(s). Click Submit Session. Once a video is submitted, you will not be able to re-record the skill. 
  9. Click Got it to go back to the Home page. 


Potential Errors

Each time you start a self-record session, the system will ask permission to access your camera and microphone, click Allow.

If you click Don't Allow, you will see the below error screen. Click Reload Page and try again. 


If your internet connection is poor, you will see this error screen. To fix this, connect to your internet and click Reload Page.
