SimCapture for Skills: How to Use the Self-Record Feature

SimCapture for Skills is a mobile-friendly platform designed for hands-on skills practice, supporting both on-site and remote learning. The Self-record feature allows learners to record and submit videos of their skill performance for evaluation-by themselves, peers, or instructors.

Before You Begin
Here are a few things to know before starting:
- SimCapture for Skills works on any device with a web browser (smartphones, tablets, laptops).
- Chrome is recommended; Safari is supported.
- If your organization uses Single Sign-On (SSO), you can log in with your credentials.
- A video icon indicates a recorded skill.
- You must allow access to your camera and microphone when prompted.
- Submitted videos are included in SimCapture reporting for authorized reviewers.
- Self-recorded sessions can be evaluated by:
- An administrator
- A peer
- Yourself (self-scoring)
- Once a session is complete, scorers cannot be assigned retroactively.
Starting a Self-Record Session
- Log in at: [yourorganization].simcapture.com/skills
- Select the recorded skill you want to practice.
- Review the Overview and Learning Objectives, then select Start.
- Complete the Pre-Reflection questions and select Begin Procedure.
- Select the red circle button to start recording.
- When finished, select the square button to stop recording.
- Review your video:
- Select Submit this Video to finalize
- Or select Re-record this Skill to try again
- Once submitted, you cannot re-record unless your instructor re-releases the scenario.
- Complete the Post-Reflection questions and select Submit Session.
- Select Got it to return to the Home page.
Troubleshooting Common Errors
Camera/Microphone Access
- When prompted, select Allow to enable recording.
- If you select Don't Allow, you'll see an error screen. Select Reload Page and try again.
Internet Connection
- A poor connection may trigger an error screen. Reconnect to Wi-Fi and select Reload Page.
