When issues occur during a live exam session, the Control Interface in SimCapture provides tools that allow Proctors and Administrators to quickly recover and keep exams running smoothly—without restarting the entire session.

This article explains when and how to use each recovery tool , and what to expect after using them.

Who This Is For

Common Exam Issues and What to Use

Reset Room

What It Does

• Logs the student out
• Returns the room to an empty, ready state
• Has no effect if no student is logged in

When to Use This

• A student logged into the wrong room
• A login failed and needs to be retried
• The room needs a clean reset before re‑entry

How to Reset a Room

1. Select the room.
2. Open the More (⋮) menu.
3. Select Reset Room .
4. Click Confirm .

Clear Configuration

What It Does

• Removes the assigned Course and Scenario
• Allows the room to be reconfigured from scratch

When to Use This

• The wrong course or scenario was assigned
• The room setup is incorrect before an exam starts

How to Clear Configuration

1. Select the room.
2. Open the More (⋮) menu.
3. Select Clear Configuration .
4. Click Confirm .

Remote Learner Login

What It Does

• Allows a Proctor to log a student in remotely
• Bypasses the need for the student to enter credentials

Availability

• Only available before the exam flow passes the participant login phase

When to Use This

• A student forgot their username or password
• There is no time to troubleshoot login issues at the station

How to Use Remote Learner Login

1. Select the room.
2. Open the More (⋮) menu.
3. Select Remote Learner Login .
4. Search for the user.
5. Click Submit .

What You’ll See

• The room turns light blue , indicating a successful remote login

Advance Room

What It Does

• Manually moves a room to the next exam flow state
• Bypasses participant actions

Availability

• Only available when a Course or Scenario is already assigned

When to Use This

• A room is stuck in the wrong phase
• The exam needs to progress despite a missed user action

How to Advance a Room

1. Select the room.
2. Open the More (⋮) menu.
3. Select Advance Room .
4. Click Confirm .

What You’ll See

• The PHASE column updates (e.g., Encounter , Post‑Encounter )
• A countdown timer appears in the TIME column

Manually Start Recording

What It Does

• Starts an ad‑hoc recording
• Works regardless of the current exam flow state

When to Use This

• A recording did not start as expected
• Recording must begin immediately without adjusting the exam flow

How to Manually Start Recording

1. Select the room.
2. Open the More (⋮) menu.
3. Select Manually Start Recording .
4. Click Confirm .

Important Notes

• Once started, this option becomes unavailable
• You can still use Advance Room to continue the exam
