What is SimCapture Cloud Remote OSCE?
SimCapture Cloud Remote OSCE is a cloud-based platform designed to facilitate the administration of OSCE assessments remotely. This innovative solution enables educators to evaluate students' clinical skills through virtual interactions, using a combination of standardized patients, simulation technologies, and video conferencing tools.
Things to Know Before You Begin
Technical Requirements:
- Browser: Chrome is the recommended browser for accessing Remote OSCE. Please note that Firefox is not supported.
- Hardware: You will need a desktop or laptop equipped with an up-to-date browser, microphone, and camera. Mobile devices or tablets are not recommended for this assessment.
- Network Bandwidth: A minimum network bandwidth of 1.2 Mbps is required. Be aware that restrictive network environments may cause potential issues. For optimal signal reliability, a wired Ethernet connection is recommended.
- Access: Remember to use Chrome to ensure access to exams, as Firefox will not work with Remote OSCE.
Workflows
Remote OSCE workflows can be performed by three user types. Learn more by clicking the user type below.
Learner
- Learners access Remote OSCEs through a designated button in the My Courses section.
- They can set up their camera and microphone prior to the exam and will receive notifications when the exam is ready to start.
- During the exam, learners view a virtual room displaying their name, remaining time, videos of themselves and the Standardized Patient (SP), and access to an Electronic Medical Record (EMR), if applicable.
- They can end the encounter by clicking the Stop Encounter button and will return to a waiting room after completing the exam and any evaluations.
For more information about the Learner workflow see SimCapture Enterprise with Exam System: Remote OSCE basics - Learner workflow.
Standardized Patient
- SPs access the Remote OSCE from their My Courses section and can configure their camera and microphone in the virtual waiting room.
- Once assigned to a virtual room, SPs wait for the learner and the Proctor to begin the encounter.
- They see similar information as learners during the exam but do not have access to the Stop Encounter button. After the exam, they return to the waiting room.
For more information about the Standardized Patient workflow see SimCapture Enterprise with Exam System: Remote OSCE basics - Standardized Patient workflow.
Proctor
- Proctors manage the Remote OSCE through the Control Interface, where they can set up rooms, courses, scenarios, and participants.
- They can start encounters in bulk, monitor rooms, and add or configure additional rooms as needed.
- Connection statuses are indicated by symbols: disconnected (audio/video issues) or connected (present in the room).
- Proctors use the Monitor Interface to oversee the exam, with specific permissions defined in the course configuration.
