Before You Begin

Requirements

  • Administrative permissions are required.
  • Evaluations must be associated with a Scenario.
  • Multiple evaluation types are available to support different training workflows.

Evaluation Workflow

Working with evaluations typically involves four steps:

  1. Configure evaluation types for a scenario.
  2. Create or add evaluation templates.
  3. Assign evaluations to learners or sessions.
  4. Review, edit, or print completed evaluations.

Step 1: Configure Evaluation Types

Before you can add evaluations, configure which evaluation types are available for the scenario.

To configure evaluation types:

  1. Navigate to Curriculum and open the desired Scenario.
  2. In the Scenario Content pod, select the pencil icon.
  3. Select the evaluation type(s) you want to use.
  4. Select Confirm.

Step 2: Add an Evaluation to a Scenario

To create or attach an evaluation:

  1. In the Evaluation section, select Click to add Evaluation.
  2. Choose one of the following:
    • Create a New Evaluation
    • Copy an Existing Evaluation
  3. Enter a Private Title.
  4. Configure Availability settings, if needed.
  5. Select Save.
  6. In the Evaluation Preview, select Add Questions.
  7. Build your evaluation and select Save.

Step 3: Choose an Evaluation Type

SimCapture supports several evaluation workflows.

Before Session

Used for pre-work or preparation activities.

Behavior Details
Assignment Automatic
Available Before the session
Removed At session start

Administrator

Used by instructors, faculty, or observers.

Behavior Details
Assignment Manual
Available During or after the session
Notes Supports multiple evaluators and team evaluations

After Session

Used for learner assessments following a simulation.

Behavior Details
Assignment Automatic
Available After session completion
Visibility Appears in the learner portfolio

Reflection

Used for learner self-reflection and debriefing.

Behavior Details
Assignment Learner-completed
Available After session release
Notes Requires session release from the Course Agenda

Standalone

Used when an evaluation is not tied to a specific session.

Behavior Details
Assignment Manual
Available Anytime
Notes Can include scoring rubrics

Exam EMR Evaluations

Exam EMR Evaluations are designed for Standardized Patient (SP) workflows.

Key Features

  • Available in SP scenarios.
  • Accessed through the Control/Exam interface.
  • Can be pre-populated to simulate EMR documentation.
  • Supports exam-based evaluation workflows.

Edit Evaluations

Both completed and incomplete evaluations can be edited.

Edit from Session Viewer

  1. Open the session.
  2. Select the blue tab.
  3. Select the Evaluation icon.
  4. Open the evaluation you want to modify.
  5. Make changes and select Save.
Delete

You can also edit evaluations directly from the Course. When editing from Session Viewer, you will not be redirected to the Course page.


Print Evaluations

Print Any Evaluation

Use this option to print blank, in-progress, or completed evaluations.

  1. Open the evaluation.
  2. Select Export to PDF.
  3. Choose the desired data type.
  4. Select Export.
  5. When PDF generation completes, select Done.

PDF Generation Message

Delete

"A PDF file is being generated for this evaluation template. The download will start when it is ready."


Print Completed or In-Progress Evaluations

  1. Select See completed and in-progress evaluations.
  2. Select Print.
  3. Configure options in the Print Evaluation Template section.
  4. Download the generated PDF.
