This article will guide you on how to create new users, assign permissions, and designate roles within your SimCapture organization.

Things to know before you begin

Only System Administrators can create other Administrators.

Terms you should know

Permissions

  • Manage Participants (set from System Setup): Allows Administrators to create, edit, or delete participant users.

Roles

  • System Admins: Use this role with caution. They have access to all content and users in the system, ignoring organization and sharing restrictions.
  • Administrators: Lower-level administrators who can own/contribute to scenarios and sessions and start sessions with permissions.
  • Participants: Users without administrative rights. They can participate in or view sessions but cannot own, contribute to, or view scenarios or other users.

Organizations

Organizations create folders for users, scenarios, and sessions corresponding to different user groups or entities. For instance, a shared simulation center could have separate organizations for a University Nursing School and a Medical School. Organizations should be used sparingly, as they add complexity to the application.

Users can belong to multiple organizations, but scenarios and sessions can only belong to one. Entire organizations can be designated as viewers for sessions and scenarios, granting all Administrators in that organization access to view those items. By default, users cannot view content from other organizations. System Admins will always have access to all content and organizations, regardless of their settings.

Create a new user

  1. Log in to your organization and click on Users > Add User. If you do not see the Add User button, please check with your system administrator to confirm if you have permission to add new users.
  2. When the Add New User page opens, fill in the required fields, select a Role for the user, and then click Save.
