Terms you should know
Summary: Shows basic Session information. If you are the owner or a contributor of this Session, you can edit and delete the Session using the icon in the upper right.
People: Session users are split into four groups:
- Owners: can do everything related to a Session, including deleting it.
- Contributors: can have different Session permissions, including editing and annotating. To edit a contributor’s permissions, click on their name in People edit mode (assuming you are the session owner).
- Participants: The users in the Session can be permitted as a group to make annotations and view others’ annotations during this Session.
- Viewers: are only allowed to view the Session and the Summary tab. They can also be permitted to view annotations as a group but cannot make annotations.
- External Link: The owner of a session or a System Administrator can enable an external link to a session, allowing non-SimCapture users to view the session video without logging in. This link does not include supplemental session information such as simulator data, annotations, users, etc.
Annotate: The top bar will filter predefined annotations below, and if none match, clicking the button will add the annotation to the timeline as an ad-hoc annotation. Clicking on any predefined annotation from the list will add it to the timeline at that point.
Event Log: The event log will display annotations that have already been made. Clicking on an item will act as a bookmark and take you to that point in the Session.
Import a session video
We utilize Amazon Transcoding Services, which supports popular web, consumer, and professional media formats. Examples include 3GP, AAC, AVI, FLV, MP4, and MPEG-2. If you've found a format that does not work, please let us know by contacting support.
- Click Sessions in the Global Navigation bar and then click Import.
- Click Choose File or drag your file to upload them. Once you've selected your videos, they'll be uploaded to the transcoding service, so you'll see some progress bars while that takes place. This may take some time, depending on the length of the videos and your internet connection speed.
- As your videos are uploading, you can select a Scenario, Title, Organization, Location, and Notes for your session. You can also change the session date and time to match the date and time that your recording was created.
- Click Save.
Once you have clicked Save, you will be taken to the session viewer. Depending on the videos' length, the session will take time to transcode and load in the viewer. However, you are free to move about or log out of the system while this process occurs. If the transcoding process takes longer than 15 minutes, an email is sent to the user who uploaded the session, alerting them that it is ready to be viewed.
Note: Save can only be selected when all uploaded videos display a green check mark.
