This article explains how to manage Sessions in SimCapture Pro.
Things to know before you begin
- The features discussed are available only to System Administrators and Administrators.
- You can access administrative functions and debrief sessions remotely, not just on the local network.
- If you need your username, password, or do not have an account, please contact your system administrator or email Support.
- The maximum recording time is 4 hours or until the file size reaches 4GB.
Key terms
- Summary: Displays basic Session information. Owners and contributors can edit or delete the Session using the icon in the upper right.
-
People:Users are categorized into four groups:
- Owners: Have full control, including deletion.
- Contributors: Can edit and annotate, with permissions adjustable by the owner.
- Participants: Can be allowed to annotate and view others' annotations.
- Viewers: Can only view the Session and Summary tab, with limited annotation viewing permissions.
- External Link: Owners or System Administrators can create a link for non-SimCapture users to view the session video without logging in. Note that this link does not include additional session information.
- Annotate: Use the top bar to filter predefined annotations. Clicking the button adds an ad-hoc annotation if no predefined ones match, or selects a predefined annotation to add to the timeline.
- Event Log: Displays existing annotations. Clicking an item will bookmark it and navigate to that point in the Session.
Import a session video
We use Amazon Transcoding Services, which supports popular media formats like 3GP, AAC, AVI, FLV, MP4, and MPEG-2. If you encounter an unsupported format, please contact support to let us know.
Click Sessions in the Global Navigation bar then select Import.
Click Choose File or drag your file to upload. Once your videos are selected, they will be uploaded to the transcoding service, and you'll see progress bars during the process. The upload time may vary based on video length and your internet connection speed.
While your videos upload, you can select a Scenario, Title, Organization, Location, and Notes for your session. You can also adjust the session date and time to match when your recording was created.
Finally, click Save.
After clicking Save, you will be taken to the session viewer. The time required to transcode and load the session will vary based on the videos' length. You may navigate or log out during this process. If transcoding takes longer than 15 minutes, the user who uploaded the session will receive an email notification when it is ready to view.
Please note that Save can only be selected when all uploaded videos show a green check mark.

To add an existing annotation, simply click its name, and it will appear on the session playback bar.
To create a new annotation from the session area, type the desired annotation name and click Add as an ad-hoc annotation.

The Event Log enables you to search for specific annotations related to the session or download the entire log. To download the complete log as an Excel spreadsheet, click the cloud icon next to Event Log.
You can also set filters by clicking the inverted blue line pyramid to display recording annotations and/or simulator events.
Reflections
The Reflection tab will only be visible if the scenario selected for the session includes a created reflection.
View a recorded session
To view a recorded session, take these steps.
- Navigate to the SimCapture website at HTTPS://[yoursiteurl].simcapture.com.
- Log in using your SimCapture username and password, or SSO if enabled for your site.
- If this was the last Session you were associated with, check the Quick Debrief pod to view your Session. Otherwise, click Sessions in the Global Navigation to find the Session you’re looking for, then click the Session Title.
- The video will automatically start playing. You can pause/restart playing from the button to the left of the timeline. If this is the first time a session is being debriefed, it may take a few seconds to load. This is normal, but if the video takes longer than 10 seconds to load or specific feeds have trouble loading, please let us know to investigate.
If you wish to make annotations or edits to the Session, open the sidebar using the blue tab to the right of the session viewer.
-
(Optional): To edit/trim your session recording, click the session video you want to edit, go to the lower right-hand corner of your screen, and click the Trim symbol . Edit your video and then click Save.
Caution: Once this is done, the original video will no longer be available to you. Additionally, all evaluations will be transferred to the edited video.
- To return to the session list, hover your mouse over the blue line at the top of the screen to reveal the global navigation bar. Alternatively, you can click the back arrow on your browser to go back to the previous page.
