Overview
Audience: System Administrators
Applies to: SimCapture Cloud Pro/Enterprise/Enterprise with Exam System
Location-Based Recording (LBR) allows you to associate multiple physical spaces (rooms, beds, or areas) with a single recording device (node). This enables more flexible recording setups and reduces hardware requirements.
- Record in multiple rooms using one node
- Support multi-bed or multi-room simulation setups
- Optimize hardware when only one session runs at a time
Tip: Location-Based Recording works best when you don't need to record multiple locations at the same time.
Key Limits and Considerations
- Maximum of 6 video/audio feeds per location
- Only one location can record per node at a time
- Exam rooms require a dedicated node
- Some inputs (e.g., webcams) may appear across all locations
- If you need simultaneous recordings across rooms, additional nodes are required.
Quick Start: Basic Setup
Use this section to quickly configure Location-Based Recording with minimal steps.
Prerequisite
Location Based Recording has been enabled for your environment if you are able to see IP Video Feeds and IP Audio Feeds in the Recording & Sessions area of System Setup.
Step 1: Create Locations
- Go to System Setup > Locations
- Select Edit
- Select + Add Location
- Enter a name for each room or space
- Select Save
Tip: Use clear naming such as “Room 201” or “Bed 3” to simplify session setup.
Step 2: Configure Audio Feeds
- Go to System Setup > IP Audio Feeds
- Select Register
- Enter:
- Name
- IP address
- Username and password
- Select Save
Tip: Set up audio feeds first to ensure proper synchronization with video.
Step 3: Configure Video Feeds
- Go to System Setup > IP Video Feeds
- Select Register
- Add video feed details.
- Associate audio feeds if needed.
- Select Save
Step 4: Assign Recording Devices and IP Feeds to a Location
- Go to System Setup > Locations
- Select Edit
- Open the kebab menu (three dots) next to a location and select Set Recording Device
- Choose a recording device and IP video feeds
- Select Save
Locations are assigned individually to each node, but the same recording device can be used across multiple locations. Each location can also have its own dedicated set of cameras and microphones.
Step 5: Validate Your Setup
From the SimCapture Dashboard or Homepage
- Start Session from a location
- End session and confirm correct video and audio are captured to the location
- Repeat Steps 1-3 for each location tied to the same recording device
Tip: Test each location before your first live session to avoid issues during training.
Warning: You cannot switch locations during a live recording.
Example Use Cases
- Multi-bed nursing lab: Record one bed at a time using a single node
- Multiple sim rooms: Share one node across rooms
- Debriefing workflows: Record simulation and debrief sessions separately
