Add questions

Once your evaluation framework is set up, it's time to add your questions. Begin by clicking the Add Questions link from the Evaluation preview at the bottom of the Evaluation page. 

From there, you can select from the following types of questions/statements, which we will look at in more detail.

Media can be added to the Multiple Choice, Information, and Free Text fields.

Multiple choice question

Multiple-choice questions are the only question type that allows for associated point values. Here we can see the various fields of the multiple-choice question and what they mean.

1. Question Field – enter the question here.
2. Answer Fields – enter answers in this area. Selecting the + at the bottom left will allow you to add more answers. You can delete an answer field by clicking the X to the right of the field.
3. Require more details – if an answer is selected, a prompt to enter more information will appear.
4. Question Category - questions may be assigned a category for reporting purposes.
5. Point Values – negative or positive point values can be assigned to an answer.
6. Total Points – maximum number of points a participant may receive for this question. If this number is lower than the number of possible question points, this question will be worth "extra credit."

Toggling between BUILD and PREVIEW allows you to see the evaluation as the participant sees it and then go back to adding more or editing questions.

Options for the Multiple choice question are displayed when the question is in focus:

• Required - Requires that this question is answered before the evaluation can be submitted.
• Add Hint Text - Displays additional text under the question to assist in answering the question correctly.
• Multiple Answers Allowed- This will change the radio buttons to checkboxes. 
  • Maximum answers allowed
• Randomize Answer Order - Will randomize the answer order for each user completing this evaluation to remove potential bias in ordering.
• Answer Option Layout - Choose whether answers are displayed adjacent to or below the question prompt horizontally or vertically.
• Move, Copy and Delete
• Add Media

USMLE (US Medical Licensing Exam) diagnosis question

The USMLE (US Medical Licensing Exam) Diagnosis question is a pre-created area that allows the participant to fill in the Diagnosis, History Finding(s), and Physical Exam Finding(s).

Options for the USMLE question are displayed when the question is in focus:

• Character Limit - set to 100 characters by default. This limit applies to each text box within the question, not the question overall
• Move, Copy and Delete

Information field

The Information field can provide instructions or details related to the scenario or a specific question, such as simulated patient information.

Options for the information field are displayed when the question is in focus:

• Add Media
• Move, Copy and Delete

Free text questions

Free text questions can be used for questions requiring a custom response, comments, or short answer questions and can be marked as comments. This will allow comments to be release to learners without releasing all the correct/incorrect answers for an evaluation. Students can then see their scores and qualitative feedback, without compromising the security of the exam materials.

Options for the Free text question are displayed when the question is in focus:

• Required - requires that this question be answered before the evaluation can be submitted.
• Add Hint Text - displays the additional text under the question to assist in answering the question correctly.
• Multiple Lines Allowed - determines whether the answer prompt contains a single line or a paragraph field for answers.
• Character Limit - The default long text character limit is 950 characters. This can be increased or decreased.
• Mark as comment - Allows comments to be released separately from the evaluation.
• Answer Options Layout - Choose whether the text box is adjacent to or below the question prompt
• Move, Copy and Delete
• Add Media

Question library

The Question library allows administrative users, who have access to courses, to access scenarios and evaluations to select questions to import into a current evaluation. Once a question or multiple questions are chosen from the library, a preview of the selected question will appear. From that point, you can Add the question to the evaluation.
