This article walks Participants through the full annotation workflow—from accessing assigned sessions to adding, editing, and viewing annotations.
Who Can Annotate Sessions?
Participants can annotate sessions only if:
- The session has been assigned to them by an Administrator, Instructor, or Course structure.
- The Participant has been given annotation permission for that session.
- The session includes video playback or recorded session content that supports timestamped annotation.
Accessing an Assigned Session
- Log in to SimCapture Cloud.
- Select the session you wish to review. The session viewer will open, displaying video playback, session metadata, and available evaluation tools.
Adding an Annotation

- Begin playing the session video (or scrub to the moment you want to annotate).
- In the video controls panel, click the + icon to search for an annotation or to create a new annotation.
- If a scenario has already been added to the session, you will see a list of pre‑selected annotations on the Annotations tab.
- You can choose from this list to annotate your session.
- Clicking the + icon on the record screen is for ad hoc annotations—used when the appropriate annotation is not in the pre‑selected list or when you want to write a quick note or explanation.
A text box will appear, showing the timestamp where the annotation will be placed.

Your annotation is now tied to that exact moment in the session and will appear in the session timeline. Note that annotations cannot be deleted.
Types of Annotations Available
Depending on your organization’s configuration, Participants may be able to use:
- Free‑text annotations – the most common option.
- Tagged annotations (e.g., "Teamwork," "Decision Making," “Communication”) if your site uses structured annotation taxonomies.
- Color‑coded markers for quick visual identification.
If your site uses structured annotation libraries, the annotation panel will allow you to select tags or categories during creation.
