The SimCapture Cloud Exam System is designed to streamline the management of Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCEs), where learners engage in simulated encounters-often with Standardized Patients (SPs). This system supports multiple roles and workflows through four dedicated interfaces and customizable exam flows.
Exam System Components
1. Student Interface
- Location: Computer outside the exam room
- Purpose: Allows learners to log in, start/stop recordings (if enabled), and complete evaluations
- Access: Via a tray application installed on the computer
2. Patient Interface
- Location: Computer inside the exam room
- Purpose: Displays a timer and patient evaluations
- Access: Via a tray application
3. Control Interface
- Location: Accessible from anywhere
- Purpose: Used by administrators or proctors to configure rooms, start/stop exams, and monitor room status
- Access: Through the SimCapture Cloud website (Global Navigation > Control)
4. Monitor Interface
- Location: Anywhere with live streaming access
- Purpose: Enables monitors to observe sessions and complete evaluations
- Access: Via the Control Interface by selecting the video icon
Exam States & Flows
SimCapture supports customizable exam flows with configurable steps:
Honor Code
- Appears on: Student Interface
- Behavior: Students must accept the honor code to proceed
- Customizable: Add/edit in System Setup
Door Notes
- Appears on: Student Interface
- Behavior: Displays encounter instructions; students click "Continue" to proceed
- Customizable: Add text/media; cannot include questions
Encounter
- Appears on: All interfaces
- Behavior: Central exam phase where students interact with SPs; sessions are recorded

- Start/Stop: Student-run or Proctor-run
- Timers: Hard (auto-advance) or Soft (manual)
- Evaluations: EMR and other tools available during the encounter
Post-Encounter
- Appears on: Student and/or Patient Interface
- Behavior: Time for completing evaluations after the encounter

- Evaluations: Student, SP, or both

- Auto-generation: Evaluations appear in session debrief if not completed during the exam

Proctor and Student Control
- Proctor-Driven: Proctors start/stop sessions from the Control Interface
- Student-Driven: Students control their own recordings

Audio Announcements & Follow-Ups
- Audio Announcements: Notify participants when 5, 2, or 1 minute remains
- Follow-Up: A second recording phase where learners return to the room for feedback or simulated result delivery
