This article answers common questions about how the LMS integration works with SimCapture, including SSO requirements , user syncing behavior , and course update rules .
Is SSO required to use the LMS integration?
No.
The LMS integration can be used with or without SimCapture SSO .
- When SSO is enabled , SimCapture can automatically create user accounts during LMS syncing.
- When SSO is not enabled , all users must already exist in SimCapture before they can be enrolled through the LMS integration.
Tip: Enabling SSO reduces manual user management and helps prevent sync issues.
What SSO external ID types are supported?
SimCapture supports the following SSO user identifiers (UIDs):
- Username
- User ID
Important
The selected UID must match exactly across:
- Your LMS
- SimCapture
- Your SSO identity provider
If these values differ, users may fail to sync or duplicate accounts may be created.
Which course content from my LMS is synced to SimCapture?
Only course titles are synced from your LMS to SimCapture.
The following LMS content is not transferred :
- Lessons
- Modules
- Assignments
- Other sub-course components
SimCapture uses the course title strictly for course linking and enrollment purposes .
How often are updates synced between my LMS and SimCapture?
- Users are transferred during initial course setup and linking
- After setup, updates are applied automatically each night
Note
- Only students/participants are synced
- Course Admins and Contributors are not synced by design
Any Admins or Contributors must be added manually in SimCapture.
Why isn’t information updating for a completed or archived course?
Courses marked as Completed or Archived in either system will no longer sync.
This includes:
- New user enrollments
- Score updates
- Result syncing
To resume syncing, the course must be active in both the LMS and SimCapture .
Common Pitfalls to Avoid
Be aware of these frequent issues when using the LMS integration:
Mismatched user identifiers
Using different Emails, Usernames, or User IDs across systems can create duplicate users.
Expecting Admins or Instructors to sync automatically
LMS Admins and Contributors must always be added manually in SimCapture.
Syncing completed or archived courses
Inactive courses will not receive updates.
Assuming full course content will transfer
Only course titles are synced—no lessons or assignments.
Disabling SSO without planning user creation
Without SSO, all users must already exist in SimCapture before syncing.
