Things to know before you begin

This information instructs System administrators in how to configure their LMS to SimCapture Enterprise and SimCapture Exam System which is the first step in using the integration. To learn more about how your data is transferred, see Data Transfer Between Your LMS and SimCapture.

Let's configure the LMS for Blackboard. 

Configure SimCapture

Log into your SimCapture organization and take these steps to configure it for use with Blackboard.

  1. Click the gear icon to go to System Setup. 
  2. Click Learning Management System. 
  3. Click Edit and enter the following settings: 
    • Select Blackboard from the LMS Platform dropdown
    • LMS URL: Enter the URL you use to normally access your LMS.
    • LMS Issuer: https://blackboard.com 
    • LMS LTI OIDC Auth URL: https://developer.anthology.com/api/v1/gateway/oidcauth
    • LMS OAuth2 Token URL: https://developer.anthology.com/api/v1/gateway/oauth2/jwttoken  
    • LMS Public JWKS URL: https://developer.anthology.com/.well-known/jwks.json
    • LTI Tool Client ID: Please reach out to SimCapture Support to obtain the Tool ID.
    • The LMS Limit fields should remain on their default settings.
    • External SSO ID Type: Reach out to Support to set up SSO configuration.
  4.  Click Save.

Blackboard Setup and Launch

Here, we will look at setting up and launching Blackboard. 

  1. Login to Blackboard with a System Admin level permission.
  2. Navigate to the Admin panel.
  3. Go to the Integrations area and click LTI Tool Providers. 

 

    4. Select Register LTI 1.3/Advantage Tool

 

    5. Input the Client ID provided to you by SimCapture Support in the previous section and click Submit. 

 6. Ensure that the following settings are toggled on and click Submit.

  • Tool Status – Approved
  • Role in Course – Checked  
  • Name – Checked
  • Email – Checked
  • Allow grade service access – Yes
  • Allow Membership Service Access – Yes

 

 7. Scroll the list of external tools until you find the SimCapture tool you just created.  Hover over the tool, select the carrot that appears and select Manage Placements.  On the following page, select Create Placement.

 8. Label the tool something that is recognizable by your team, i.e., SimCapture Tool.

 9. Label the handle something that is recognizable by your team, i.e., SimCapture Tool.

10. Ensure that Availability is set to Yes.

11. For Type, select Course Tool and check Allow Student Access.

12. Ensure that Launch in New Window is checked. 

 13. For Target Link URI, enter your SimCapture URL, such as “my-institution.simcapture.com” then click Submit.

 14. Once the tool placement is complete, the tool will be available to add to new or existing courses.

 15. Select the course you wish to integrate with SimCapture.

 16. From here, you will select the external tool to link to SimCapture, this will look slightly different depending on if you are using Blackboard Classic or Blackboard Ultra.

 17. Click on the tool to launch SimCapture. Ensure you are logged into SimCapture beforehand.

 18. Choose whether you want to link to an existing SimCapture course or create a new one.
